On The Job Training:
Bank One Tower & The Avallon provide job shadowing opportunities for 6th grade students

Mathews Elementary School, FACES of Change partner school of Bank One Tower, Barton Oaks and The Avallon, organizes a yearly job shadowing day for sixth grade students. Various Austin businesses are contacted and asked if a student could shadow an employee to learn what they do each day. The goal is for students to begin to explore different career opportunities. Sixth grader Medar De la Cruz visited Bank One Tower and was given the chance to shadow the Crescent engineering team. Medar had a very busy and enjoyable day. He visited the roof and the chiller room, helped empty a truckload of filters, learned about adjusting the air, helped remove ceiling tiles, and even got to accompany the engineers on customer calls. He reportedly had a wonderful time. Tronell Louis, a Crescent engineer at The Avallon, also spent the day with a student from Mathews, Gerardo Magallanes. Gerardo was able to learn about HVAC systems, building access systems, and the general day to day routine of what is involved in being a maintenance engineer. A special thank you goes to the talented and patient building engineers, David Meiske, John Montez, Larry Guinn, and Tronell Louis for offering this educational glimpse into the field of property engineering.

Crescent team member Michael Weeks at the Mathews Elementary School Science Fair
Crescent also assisted Mathews Elementary with their school-wide Science Fair on February 3, 2005. Deborah Wagner, Michael Weeks, and Phyllis Jones helped judge the Fair along with several customers from Bank One Tower. Assisting the Crescent judges were advanced placement students from Austin High School. The judges had the opportunity to interview the kids on their projects and learn more about each student's interests. All of the students were very proud of their accomplishments and the Crescent judges reported that they enjoyed the Science Fair immensely!
