Thanks to the generosity of the staff and customers at Fountain Place, students at J.W. Ray Learning Center are now able to practice keeping time during their music and hand bell lessons. On Thursday, September 9th Fountain Place staff members presented J.W. Ray music teacher Ann Moody with a brand new metronome for use in her music classes.

The project began last year during the Christmas season when Ms. Moody brought her hand ball class to perform holiday music in the Fountain Place lobby. The young students sounded beautiful, but Ms. Moody mentioned to Fountain PlaceÕs Francis Ann Schmidt that the school really needed a professional quality metronome to help teach the students tempo.

Francis Ann quickly went to work researching all of the options for purchasing this very expensive piece of equipment. After calling several Dallas area music stores she discovered that she needed to special order the metronome which she then did.

When presented with the gift last week, Ms. Moody expressed how delighted she was to introduce this important musical teaching aid to her students. She requested that the gift (pictured above) remain wrapped so that she could share the excitement of opening it with her hand bell class!

J.W. Ray Learning Center is located just north of downtown Dallas. Over eighty percent of the students attending J.W. Ray qualify for the federal free and reduced lunch program. However, J.W. Ray Learning Center is committed to achieving academic excellence and offers many opportunities for enrichment including a full music and art program. Thanks to Francis Ann Schmidt and the entire Fountain Place team for fulfilling the FACES mission and helping give a special "boost" to a great school.
